On paper, the work often looks well organised. The procedures are in place, the risks have been assessed and the right PPE is ready. And yet, on board, things regularly go differently.
Why is that? And what can you as a manager do to understand people’s behaviour and influence it in a positive way?
That is what this Safety Day is about. You will go home with new insights and practical tools for your own organisation.
Morning – Keynote Sessions
HOP & Safety-II – New Perspectives on Safety Culture
Matthias Parrey questions: How do you look at people, mistakes and the conditions in which the work is done?
Same Ship, Different Worlds – Communicating for Safety Across Cultures
Evelien Jonkeren of ISSA Section on Prevention in Transportation & BG Verkehr, shows how our own “normal” shapes the way we look at others. And what that means for cooperation and safety.
Afternoon – Hands-on Workshops
A. The boatmaster simulation: Understand work. Create safety. – a tabletop game in which participants experience how wide the gap between these two lines can be, and how you as a manager can spot risks earlier by truly listening to the people doing the work.
B. Mind the Gap! Exploring the Hidden Side of Safety Communication – an interactive session where your own beliefs are challenged and where you learn to really communicate clearly.
C. Escape Room Barge Edition – a nerve-wracking game in which your knowledge and skills are tested, all related to the challenges the crew experiences on board.
